5 Journal Prompts to Help You Heal from a Toxic Relationship

By Sarah Hoover | The Peace & Power Collective

There’s a moment after a toxic relationship ends when you’re left alone—not just with memories, but with the stories you told yourself to survive. If you’re here, you may be in that moment.

✔️ Healing doesn’t require perfection. It requires intention.
Journaling became my sacred tool to move through pain, reclaim my voice, and begin again—on my own terms.

Here are five guided prompts to support your journey of healing and reclaiming power:

1. What parts of myself did I silence or abandon to stay in that relationship?

Toxic patterns often demand smallness. Use this prompt to name the parts of yourself you had to dim—and begin inviting them back.

2. What did I believe about love that kept me in that situation?

Certain beliefs trap us more than actions ever could. This question helps reveal subconscious false truths—so you can begin rewriting a healthier love story.

3. What warning signs did I feel, ignore, or explain away?

This isn’t about blame—it’s about honoring your intuition. Reflect on moments your body or spirit tried to speak truth—but you silenced it.

4. Who am I without their voice in my head?

Envision yourself outside their expectations, criticisms, or manipulations. Who remains? What do you feel when that influence falls away?

5. What do I deserve in future relationships?

You get to define what’s worthy of you now—not the past’s version of love. Let this question become a boundary-setter, vision board, or prayer for what’s next.
